This guide explains the 2027 flooring trends, who is predicting each one, and what to check before you specify it for a UAE villa, apartment, or fit-out.
TL;DR
- Warm oak and honey tones are replacing cool grey.
- Matte finishes with light texture are replacing high gloss.
- Wider and longer planks continue, and suit large rooms best.
- Herringbone and other patterns are returning.
- Natural and sustainable materials are rising, but check humidity limits before choosing solid wood in the UAE.
- Grey is not finished. Choose warm undertones.
- Most forecasts come from US designers, so test each trend in your own room before you commit.
Where these 2027 flooring trends come from
We did not find a 2027 flooring forecast built on UAE sales data. The trends below come from designer interviews and trade or retail commentary, mostly from the US, and we name the source for each one.
Treat them as direction, not market share. A trend that works in a US living room still has to survive UAE sunlight, humidity, and the way your space is used.
Six flooring trends for 2027, and a UAE check for each
1. Warm oak and honey tones replace cool grey
A syndicated USA TODAY report on 2027 flooring quotes several designers saying faux-wood grey has run its course. Designer Craig Glitzen says homeowners now favour warmer wood tones, including white and European oak in natural and medium-brown finishes.
BuildDirect’s 2027 trends article (August 2026) makes a similar call for lightly finished natural oak and warm medium browns. It advises avoiding strong orange, red, or near-black.
UAE check: Colour looks different under strong daylight and artificial light. Test a sample in the actual room, which is also the advice in our guide to choosing flooring for your interior style.
2. Matte finishes and light texture
Designer Katelyn Gilmour told Spruce she expects matte finishes to dominate across wood, vinyl plank, laminate and tile, with high gloss falling out of favour (reported by Floor Daily). BuildDirect adds that light wire-brushed texture is replacing heavy hand-scraped and artificially distressed looks.
UAE check: Surface finish affects how a floor looks and how you clean it. Ask the supplier for the maintenance guide for the exact product, not for the material in general.
3. Wider and longer planks
All three designers in the Floor Daily piece expect wide planks to continue. BuildDirect says plank width should be judged against room size and architecture, so wide planks suit large rooms better than small ones.
UAE check: Large open-plan villa living areas are where wide planks make the most sense. Before ordering, check the manufacturer’s installation guide for subfloor flatness requirements and have the subfloor assessed on site.
4. Herringbone and pattern return
Floor Daily reports that all three designers expect herringbone to have a major moment. In the USA TODAY report, designer Lisa Quinn also points to parquet, checkerboard layouts and stone inlays, and says distinct tiles such as terracotta and zellige are coming back.
UAE check: A pattern floor needs planning before the first plank goes down. Our herringbone flooring guide covers the layouts, and our herringbone flooring shows what we supply and install.

5. Natural and sustainable materials, with a climate filter
Quinn expects engineered wood, reclaimed wood, cork and bamboo to become more popular, and notes these usually cost more than vinyl plank or laminate. The organisers of DOMOTEX Middle East also report that manufacturers are turning to eco-conscious materials and recycled components (Design Middle East, March 2025).
UAE check: Humidity and the indoor-outdoor temperature gap matter. For that reason, our style guide recommends engineered wood, SPC, vinyl click, or laminate over solid wood. If a product is marketed as sustainable, ask for the documentation behind the claim.
6. Grey is not finished; it is getting warmer
The same USA TODAY report is more balanced than its headline. Designer Carin Elle Mead says grey can work with warm undertones and natural variation. Jonathan Palley, CEO of Clever Tiny Homes, says grey stays useful in high-traffic areas because it hides dirt well, and other designers still like natural grey materials such as limestone, slate, and concrete.
UAE check: If you already have grey-toned stone or porcelain, you may not need to fight it. Choose warm undertones for the new floor so the two do not clash.
Trends to treat with caution
Some predictions come from a single designer, so we would not build a project around them. Virginia Toledo expects bold painted patterns, and Mugdha Girish Uma expects wall-to-wall carpet to return in homes (both via Floor Daily).
Both may suit certain homes. Neither is a settled direction for 2027, and carpet remains a poor fit for wet areas.
How to decide which trend is worth choosing
Pick the trend that fits the room and the way you live, then check the practical points in the table.
| Trend | Where it tends to work | Check before you specify |
|---|---|---|
| Warm oak and honey tones | Living rooms, bedrooms, majlis and open-plan areas | Sample in the room’s own light. Match the undertone to walls and furniture. |
| Matte and lightly textured finishes | Most interior rooms | Ask for the cleaning and maintenance guide for the exact product. |
| Wide and long planks | Large rooms and open-plan spaces | Check the installation guide for subfloor flatness. Judge plank width against room size. |
| Herringbone and pattern | Feature areas, living rooms and entrances | Confirm the layout and installation plan before ordering. |
| Natural and sustainable materials | Dry interior rooms | Check the manufacturer’s humidity guidance. Ask for documentation behind sustainability claims. |
| Warm grey and stone looks | High-traffic areas and spaces with existing grey stone | Match undertones to what is staying in the room. |
Questions to ask before you buy a trend floor
- Does the manufacturer’s data sheet confirm the product suits the room, including any moisture or sunlight limits?
- What does the installation guide require of the subfloor?
- Does the quote include installation, skirting, delivery, and VAT?
- What does the warranty cover, in writing?
- Would a more established look last longer? Our comparison of laminate and vinyl flooring helps if you are weighing materials as well as style.
What this means for your project
- Villa owners: Warm wood tones and wider planks suit larger living areas. Test samples at home first.
- Apartment landlords: A neutral warm oak look is the lower-risk choice for a rental that will change tenants.
- Fit-out contractors and designers: Confirm product documentation and installation requirements early. Our SPC flooring range is one option for several of these looks, subject to the specific product’s data sheet.
